Animal Portrait

2026 Online Portrait Competition

October 1–20, 2026

The third international Animal Portrait Competition for visual artists is sponsored by the Portrait Society of Canada, a professional organization dedicated to advancing the practice and technique of portraiture and fostering education and public engagement in the visual arts tradition.

Animal Portrait is an online exhibition and the Society’s competition to feature public voting. Competition is open to artists worldwide.

Open to visual artists aged 18 and older working in drawing, painting, and sculpture.

Submitted artworks may be 2D or 3D, including drawing, painting, and sculpture in all media. Photographs are not accepted.

Awards

Best Animal Portrait Award 2026 – $1,000 CAD
People’s Choice Animal Award 2026 – $500 CAD

Visual artists and sculptors are invited to submit digital images of their work. Jurying will be conducted by a selection committee appointed by the Portrait Society of Canada.

Top finalist works will be exhibited on the Portrait Society website from October 1 to October 20, 2026.

Final award winners will be announced on October 20, 2026 at 12:00 noon.

All submissions will be evaluated based on composition, technique, application, and vitality of the portrait work.

Cash awards will be mailed or emailed to the winners on October 21, 2026.

All entries must be received by September 20, 2026 at 11:00 PM (EST).

Rules and Procedures

Open to artists worldwide, aged 18 and over.
Drawings, paintings, and sculptures in 2D and 3D are accepted. Photographic works are excluded.
Portraits and figurative animal works in any medium are accepted.
Open to all animal portraits from land, sea, and air.
Due to copyright law, images copied from the internet or other artists’ works are not permitted.
Entries must be submitted as digital JPEG images via the online portal or mailed on a flash drive (maximum file size: 5 MB each).
Artist’s name, title, medium, and dimensions must appear on the flash drive and registration form.
Entry Fee: $65 CAD per artwork (maximum of 4 entries).
Flash drives will not be returned, except when accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
