Competition 2025

Join us in celebrating the art of self-portraiture and showcase your creative vision to a global audience! This will be the first competition with public voting, sponsored by the Portrait Society of Canada, and will be an online competition. Public voting will determine the Best Self-Portrait Artists of 2025. The winners will be announced on June 21, 2025. The competition is open to all professional visual artists and to anyone interested in the art of portraiture.

Prizes:

• Best Traditional Self-Portrait Award 2025 – $500 CAD
• Best Contemporary Self-Portrait Award 2025 – $500 CAD

Artists are invited to submit digital images of their work(s) in JPEG format. All submissions will be displayed on the Portrait Society website from June 1 – June 20, 2025. Winners will be announced on June 21, 2025. All submissions will be judged based on composition, technique, application, and overall vitality of the portrait.

Cash awards will be mailed to the winners on June 21, 2025.

As the only professional online competition in fine art portraiture in Canada, this is a unique opportunity to gain public recognition in the specialty field of portraiture within contemporary Canadian art.

 RULES AND PROCEDURES

• Open to all Canadian and American visual artists.
• Accepting portraits and sculptures in all media (2D and 3D). The submitted work must be an original work of art.
• Entries must be submitted as digital images on a CD or memory stick in JPEG format, with a maximum file size of 3MB.
• All entries must be postmarked on or before May 20, 2025.
• The artist’s name, title of the entry, medium, and size must appear on the CD/memory stick and the registration form.
• Entry Fees:
  • $30 CAD per artwork for Portrait Society members (up to 4 entries per artist).
  • $50 CAD per artwork for non-members (up to 4 entries per artist).
• CDs and flash drives will not be returned (exceptions apply only to those accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope).

• There are no restrictions on works previously entered into other competitions or exhibitions.
• Email Entry: Submit scanned registration forms and images as JPEG attachments via email to info@portraitsociety.ca. Payments can be made via e-transfer to info@portraitsociety.ca.
